Kari Grist is a passionate brand builder with over 25 years of experience creating and leading high-performing teams. Adept in a variety of business environments, Kari has achieved significant results and won multiple awards in various industries including aviation and tourism (Canadian Airlines), financial services (Vancity), environmental services (Offsetters) and, more recently, higher education (UBC).
Kari established Candor Brand Counsel in late 2016 working with organizations, providing them with pragmatic advice that gets results. Candor provides open, honest advice to partners needing counsel around brand strategy, integrated marketing communications, digital storytelling and social media transformation.
In 2012, Kari joined UBC as the Managing Director, Communications & Marketing. In this newly created role, Kari was responsible for shaping and elevating the university brand to inspire the world to engage with UBC. Kari refreshed the UBC brand promise, rolled out a refreshed brand identity, and implemented a digital and social transformation that had measured impact.
Prior to joining UBC, Kari was the Senior Vice President, Marketing & Client Engagement at Offsetters. Kari was responsible for defining and building the Offsetters brand as well as establishing partnerships with several major stakeholders, including VANOC, lululemon, Aimia and Harbour Air.
Other notable career achievements include launching Vancity’s new brand strategy that won BCAMA’s 2005 Marketer of the Year Award and the launch of oneworld—a global airline alliance.
