September 19, 2019, VICTORIA, BC – BC Hydro’s digital-first marketing strategy has won them the Marketer of the Year award by the BC Chapter of the American Marketing Association (BCAMA).

According to the BCAMA, BC Hydro’s integrated marketing strategy embraced digital marketing techniques that resulted in a robust data driven approach towards achieving business objectives. Additionally, its campaigns demonstrated a thorough understanding of the Crown corporation’s culturally diverse target market, generating exceptional results.

“The BCAMA Marketer of the Year awards have a long and prestigious history here in BC and it is only fitting that a brand as integral to life in BC as BC Hydro receives the 49th Marketer of the Year award,” says Trina Notman, BCAMA president.

Finalists were judged by an independent panel that included leading members of the BC marketing industry. The winner was selected having executed a results-oriented marketing initiative, through strategic planning and creative execution.

“BC Hydro’s ability to turn an intangible product into something truly engaging was marketing magic,” says Christian Westin, BCAMA immediate past president & judging chair. “The judges were impressed by this Crown corporation’s use of digital approaches to connect with millions of British Columbians in new ways. We also loved that they made the BC Hydro brand accessible by utilizing Dave, a genuine employee, as their spokesperson.”

“This recognition from B.C.’s marketing industry is extremely meaningful for BC Hydro,” says Cynthia Dyson, director of marketing communications, BC Hydro. “This was a big year for us as we shifted our marketing approach to focus more on storytelling. The fresh approach we’ve taken has helped elevate the BC Hydro brand and connect with our customers across various channels and demographics within the province.”

The Award will be presented at the 49th annual BCAMA Marketer of the Year Gala on 14 November in Vancouver, BC. At the gala, the BCAMA will also hand out Marketing Excellence Awards – a collection of individual awards celebrating marketing excellence in each of six different categories. Overall, the event is a night of celebration and recognition for those in the industry who have excelled throughout the year. Marketers of all levels within the province will be in attendance.
