Network In Style At This Year’s BCAMA Marketer Of The Year

Networking in Style

This year the celebrations in recognition of Tourism Victoria’s marketing achievements will be taking place at the BCAMA Marketer of the Year at the Westin Bayshore on November 12.  With so many amazing people at one event we want to make sure everyone in attendance is well equipped with the best networking tips. So we have gathered five tips to make sure that you’re networking in style.

Here are 5 tips to networking like a pro at this year’s BCAMA MOY

Tip #1: Bring your business cards

Set your reminder today: do not forget your business cards! Better yet, go and put some in your wallet or in the purse you’re bringing to the event right now. The last thing you want is to have a misconnection. After you’ve collected business cards, connect with these people on LinkedIn. Be sure to add a quick note when you’re connecting with them so they can recall your conversation. Tip: connecting via the LinkedIn mobile app doesn’t allow you to add a quick note.

Tip #2: Don’t just sit at your table all night

There will be lots to do and lots to see at the event, so don’t just glue yourself to your table. Get up, mingle, or even take a selfie!

Tip #3: Introduce yourself to at least 3 people you don’t know

This can be nerve wracking but almost everyone at the event is there to have a good night, meet new people, and create memorable conversations. Don’t be afraid to start a conversation with someone at your table, in the main hall, or in the line-up for the washroom. These introductions and conversations can provide you with great insight to what other people in the marketing and tourism industry are working on. They can also lead to new business and career opportunities.

Tip #4: Dress to impress

The BCAMA Marketer of the Year is known to be a glamorous evening of recognition, celebration, innovation, and fun. Be sure to wear your best dress or suit so when you’re networking you look as good as you’re feeling. But remember, you also don’t want to be yanking at your tie or carrying your heels, so be sure you’re comfortable in whatever you’re donning.

Tip #5: Research the people who will be attending

A great way to network like a pro is being aware of the people you want to meet at the event. Learn who will be attending through the event’s Facebook Page – and follow the hashtag #BCAMAMOY on Twitter and Instagram – to get a grasp on who will be attending. When you spot a couple of people you’re intrigued to meet at the event, look them up on LinkedIn to learn more about their professional background so you are more comfortable in starting a conversation with them. After all, a little creeping on social media doesn’t hurt.
