Get to the next level of your career with BCAMA’s new mentorship program: Level Up

Maybe you’re hesitant to move into a leadership role or maybe you’ve wanted this for a while. Either way, all you need is encouragement, support and a network to get you going. Get in the program, connect with a diverse group of colleagues, learn key leadership skills and see what’s possible… on the next level.

Who is this Mentorship Program for?

Level Up is for marketers at the middle manager level (3-7+ years’ experience) who want to break through to the Director/VP level and could use a hand up to level up.

Why become a Mentee?

  • Expand your network, meet your fellow mentees and program mentors.
  • Learn more about key leadership attributes with educational content from Royal Roads University.
  • Receive guidance and advice from a senior marketing professional dedicated to your growth and who is known in their industry as a strong leader of people.

Who are the Mentors?

All mentors for this program have been hand-picked by the BCAMA because they are not only accomplished senior marketers, but they are the best type of leaders. Leaders who care about people. This program is about developing more of these best types of leaders.

Mentorship Program Outline

Get paired up with a senior marketer mentor that can share their life experiences with you and help you realize your potential.

The program starts with a speed networking event on January 21, 2021 at 5:15 pm where you will have the chance to meet all the mentors and choose which ones you would prefer to work with. (Chemistry counts!)

On being paired with a mentor you will meet one-on-one at least once per month for the duration of mentorship program (six months). Each month will be themed around a key leadership skill that will help you level up, such as:

  • conflict resolution
  • effective communication
  • coaching

Our Education Sponsor, Royal Roads University, will provide relevant educational content each month to help you advance your learning in these key areas.

By the end of the program, you will have six months that you have invested in your growth. You will have learned about what great leadership is and be well-positioned to take your career to the next level.

Steve Mossop

Steve Mossop is President of Insights West, a progressive, full-service marketing research company that offers insights-driven solutions via leading-edge tools and normative databases to public and private sector clients in Western Canada. Steve was previously President of Market Research Canada West within Ipsos-Reid for 17 years managing approximately 30+ client service staff in multiple cities.

  Alvin Chow

Vice President

Alvin Chow brings over 30 years of media sales, leadership and management experience, with a proven track record in national advertising sales, leading small to midsize teams and growing digital audiences in the publishing business. He is proud to have started his newspaper career with the Edmonton Journal and over the years has been involved with more than 100+ newspaper titles across the country, including in British Columbia: the Vancouver Sun, The Province, Vancouver Is Awesome, Victoria Times Colonist & many community newspapers.

Dan Howe

Darren Mahaffy


Darren Mahaffy is the Chief Marketing Officer for Silver Hills in Abbotsford. This family-owned company brings organic, sprouted grain-based bakery products to consumers across Canada and the US under the Silver Hills Bakery, Little Northern Bakehouse and One Degree Organic Foods Brands. Prior to Silver Hills, Darren was the VP of Marketing and GM for UK Operations for Nature’s Path Foods in Richmond BC.

David Gratton


David Gratton is a leader, strategist, and lifelong product nut. Over the last 20 years he has led two studios that design and build first of their kind products and marketing campaigns, including the groundbreaking BMW Films and Deus Ex interactive Twitch broadcast. David also incubated Appnovation, founded the BC Tech Cube and most recently launched a new wearable art clothing line, DEQQ Apparel.

Janet Docherty

Janet Docherty is the owner and brand-builder of Merridale Cidery & Distillery, a family business running cidery, distillery, eatery, store, food line, accommodation, event venue and wholesale operations. She has a background in commerce, accounting, construction, and real estate. Janet also has a wealth of board experience in agriculture, business, and tourism, and is the President of Tourism Cowichan. Sustainability and community are woven into the fabric of everything that Janet does.

As Partner, she oversees the leadership team and is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the agency.

Leslie Matheson
Director Operations and Marketing

Leslie Matheson is an award-winning marketer and enophile. She spent the first 25 years of her career with Cadillac Fairview, working in marketing and retail management. During her tenure with CF, Leslie launched industry-changing experiential and creative programs, and mentored many individuals who have gone on to have strong careers of their own. In 2016, Leslie followed her passion and pivoted into the world of fine wine. She is currently the Director, Operations and Marketing for the iconic Wild Goose Vineyards & Winery, located in the beautiful Okanagan.

He was previously SVP and Managing Partner at Dare–the UK’s Digital Agency of the Decade–and General Manager of Fjord West. Sandy has overseen digital engagements with clients such as ViacomCBS, SAP, TELUS, AT&T, McDonald’s, EA, Diageo, and Nintendo. Sonia Singh
Account Executive

Sonia Singh is a senior sales leader with over 15 years of account management, business development and training experience. She currently works at Amazon Web Services in Vancouver where she is helping BC’s largest enterprise customers transition to the cloud and transform their digital businesses. Outside of this, she has helped develop BC’s female workforce by mentoring local talent into positions in finance and tech. She has also been a multi-year advisor to the Dress for Success Board focusing on enabling women to succeed in the workplace.
