Marketing Opportunities and Challenges In 2020



What better way to kick-off 2020 than participating in an insightful discussion around the challenges and opportunities facing the marketing industry for the year ahead.

With heightened levels of consumer demands and expectations, as well as the continued shift in requirements from brands, the marketing arena is experiencing unprecedented change. Whether it’s changing consumer behaviour, the increased demand for outcome-driven marketing spend, or the infusion of data into every strategic decision — there are headwinds marketers need to overcome and tailwinds propelling us forward.

And this is precisely what we will be addressing during the Headwinds & Tailwinds panel discussion featuring leading agencies from BC.

Each agency panelist will be sharing their point of view on what’s ahead, followed by a candid debate.

Katie Moderator

Kate Baillie
VP Marketing and Communications
Technical Safety BC


Kate joined Technical Safety BC from TELUS, where she led teams in marketing, communications and customer experience. When not obsessing over safety, Kate works to improve diversity in the workplace, mentors up-and-coming leaders and likes to spend time outside – either doing hard labour in her garden or enjoying all the amazing hiking and kayaking that Vancouver has to offer.



Lizzie Dabous
Managing Director

Lizzie leads the team at TAXI as managing director, leveraging her experience in brand and communications strategy to build strong foundations for clients and drive their businesses forward with impactful creative. Her ability to synthesize human insights and create actionable strategies has led to many successful rebrands and helped clients live out their brand purpose across multiple customer touch points from traditional advertising to point of sale to retail spaces to online, including content creation and social media. Over the last four years at TAXI, she’s worked on BC Dairy, Credit Karma, DivaCup, Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, and SaskTel.



Jeff Harrison

Founder & Creative Design

As Founder and Creative Director Design at 123w, Jeff oversees branding and communications for clients like Okanagan Springs Brewery, Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, BC Lotteries Corporation, and White Spot. Prior to launching 123w, Jeff was Partner and Creative Director at Rethink Canada. In his 25 plus year career, Jeff has been recognized by D&AD, London International Awards, Communication Arts, The One Show, Cannes, Lürzer’s Archive, and has even won a Juno and received a Grammy nomination for his design work.



Sandy Fleischer

Managing Partner

Sandy is Managing Partner at Pound & Grain, a digital agency in Toronto and Vancouver. Recognized as an industry leader, he’s presented at high profile events such as SXSW, Adobe Max, and SoDA Speaks. He also contributes regularly to Strategy Magazine. At Pound & Grain, he’s led engagements with ViacomCBS, SAP, TELUS, Electronic Arts, The CFL, Arc’teryx, MEC, and others. In his secret other life, Sandy is known as DJ Pescatore, and has played to crowds across Canada, the US and Italy.



Miles Sellyn


As President of Major Tom, Miles works with our partners to develop and execute compelling digital strategies that transform organizations and drive growth. He has collaborated with the likes of Denny’s, Phantom Screens, Orkin, and Motion Picture Association of America to develop competitive methods and creative solutions unique to their industries. He loves the New England Patriots, Smash Bros, and his wife’s cat, Tonka.


Eric Sloan

Director of Growth


Eric Sloan is a digital marketing leader with 9+ years in growth marketing. He started his career as a web developer and has developed a number of marketing products, including a B2B SaaS product. He has founded two companies, and helped lead and grow an international appliance startup which earned him a BC Business 30 under 30 award.
