DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

Empowering Every Perspective

The BCAMA is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and reconciliation. Our Policy outlines how we work to foster a more diverse, supportive and inclusive environment within the BCAMA, its membership and communities.

POLICY STATEMENT

We believe marketing has the power to make a difference. As innovators, strategists, ambassadors, and storytellers, we shape narratives that communicate value, create meaning, and establish societal norms. As stewards of the brand and voice of the customer, we have a responsibility to leverage our platform to foster true belonging within our chapters, communities, and society as a whole.

Our commitments ensure that the way we operate models inclusive practices, amplifies diverse voices, and creates learning opportunities that support members in driving change within their own organizations and communities.

COMMITMENTS

1. Diverse and Inclusive Practices

We commit to advancing diversity and inclusion across every portfolio and area of operation within the BCAMA, including around recruitment, programming, partnerships, content, and communications.

2. Fostering an Inclusive Community

We commit to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and supportive community that encourages understanding, ongoing learning (and unlearning of unconscious biases), and collaboration among members and volunteers from diverse and intersecting backgrounds. This includes creating spaces where diverse perspectives are sought out and valued.

3. Building Inclusive Leadership Capacity

We commit to building the capacity of our members to become more effective, inclusive marketers and leaders, through professional training and development education, events, and resources. This includes ensuring access to our programming and resources for our members and all BC marketers who want to make a difference.

4. Advocating for Change

We commit to advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the marketing industry and society at large. This includes promoting campaigns and initiatives that highlight diverse and intersectional voices and identities, and challenge systemic inequalities. We also commit to providing education for our members, volunteers, and leadership on the history and rights of Indigenous peoples and equity-deserving groups.

5. Accountable for Progress

We commit to regularly assessing our programs and practices, and transparently reporting on our progress toward living our diversity and inclusion values and commitments. Feedback from our members will guide our efforts to create a more inclusive association.

6. Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation

We commit to honouring the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action. We recognize the harmful role marketing and media have historically played in shaping colonial narratives and commit to advancing reconciliation through our practices, programs, and partnerships. We will amplify Indigenous voices, promote ethical storytelling, and provide ongoing learning opportunities in Indigenous history, and cultural competency.
