Digital Agency Panel #5 of 7 – Josh Dunford, Burnkit

May 3, 2013

by Bruce Nickson

The final event in this year’s BCAMA Evening Speaker Series (ESS) – a Digital Agency Panel, which will be held from 6 pm to 9 pm on Wednesday, May 8 at The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver – promises to be action packed! Seven of Vancouver’s brightest sparks in the digital marketing space each have seven minutes to tell us what’s happening in the digital world in 2013. The panel will be moderated by Steven Cox, who brought Pecha Kucha Night to Vancouver, and the individual presentations will be followed by by a Q&A session.

We’ve decided to give you a sneak preview of the event by asking each participant to complete a Marketline Blog version of the Proust Questionnaire, and to keep their answers to no more than 140 characters. We’re posting one questionnaire (in no particular order) each workday, leading up to the event. Today, we’re featuring Josh Dunford (who gave us his title as “Director/Janitor”) at Burnkit.

What trait do you most value in your colleagues? A solutions mindset, with an aptitude for seeing a challenge through the eyes of the audience (and bringing unconventional ideas to the table).

An example of a (god-awful) digital campaign that no one should emulate? QR codes, full-stop. Or anything on TV that has an online call to action that is mobile-device incompatible ( was mobile incompatible, but exhorted you to send your friends a cheer).

An example of a digital campaign that marketers can learn from? Bringing integrity to a brand viewed and entirely processed. Worked really well with their “these eggs are the same eggs…” TV spots.

What marketing skill do you lack and are working on learning? I’m not as experienced in traditional broadcast (plenty of video/film/audio experience for alternative/interactive use).

What is your current state of mind? Mobile first.

The Marketline Blog version of the Proust Questionnaire was coordinated by Bruce Nickson. Bruce is employed in the sales and marketing of engineering services and is embarking on (yet another) startup in the technology space.
