The BCAMA Board of Directors is made up of a group of volunteers who take on portfolios above and beyond what they do in their own careers. With the fast pace and continuously changing market trends, careers and personal life are often demanding enough, without adding to the mix. The dedication, expertise and energy of this group of professionals allows for the programming and initiatives you enjoy as a BCAMA member and supporter. I'd like to thank the incoming board, and those that have come before us, for their dedication and invite members to do the same throughout the year.

Georgia Dahle
President
Georgia assumes the role of President, after having completed three years as Director of Marketer of the Year and also Director of Vision throughout her tenure on the Board.
She is a marketing and communications professional with 10 years of experience in communications, event planning and marketing. She holds the position of Director, Corporate Communications form Mr. Lube Canada, the leader in the quick lube category for preventative automotive maintenance. In her role at Mr. Lube, Georgia manages the areas of internal and external communications, the Mr. Lube Foundation, sponsorship and community giving.
Prior to joining Mr. Lube, Georgia was President of Method Event Planning Inc., a Vancouver event and strategic marketing company specializing in local, national and international marketing programs and events. Prior to establishing the company in 2001, Georgia held numerous senior roles in the online advertising and marketing fields. She brings over 10 years of experience to event management and strategic marketing.
In addition to working in the event management and marketing fields, Georgia has worked extensively with various levels of the national and international governments. Her company focuses on strategic coordination of large scale, multi-stakeholder conferences and events and corporate and incentive programs for organizations. She has worked extensively nationally and internationally, including the United States, Norway, the Netherlands and Italy.
Georgia has guest lectured for the International Internet Marketing Association and at Capilano College on Strategic Marketing and Brand Development. |

Darrell Hadden
President Elect
Darrell formed Graphically Speaking 20 years ago. The company has evolved from the largest presentation graphics supplier in the Pacific Northwest to become the second largest, full service website development firm in Vancouver. Graphically Speaking employs a web development team of 36 specialists.
Darrell is a graduate of UBC’s Internet Marketing Program and is a Certified Internet Marketing Business Strategist.
Prior to Graphically Speaking, Darrell was a Product Manager for Cableshare, a Rogers Cable high technology division. At Cableshare, he helped develop the first North American home shopping trial with JC Penny and the first corporate intranet system with IBM. His division was also the first to integrate video, credit card readers, and touch screens with the microcomputer.
Earlier at Microtel and Microtel Pacific Research he was part of a team that created “Teleguide”, the first public access kiosk in North America, and developed computer graphics technology (NAPLPS) that industry experts believed would be the backbone of the Internet. |

Steve H. Kim
Vice President
Fresh off his two-year tenure as editor of marketline Magazine, Steve is now the vice president for the BCAMA, overseeing the Communications Portfolio for the organization. Steve brings to his role over 11 years of expertise in strategic marketing, communications and business development gained from his experience within the media, entertainment, technology and non-profit sectors.
When not focused on BCAMA matters, Steve is the president of Boilingpoint Communications, a strategic marketing communications firm based in Vancouver, BC. By serving as the outsourced marketing department for growth stage businesses, Boilingpoint thrives on helping organizations to integrate traditional and new media strategies to raise awareness and drive business results.
Prior to starting Boilingpoint, Steve was the vice president of IN CONTEXT Marketing and PR, where he was responsible for all aspects of the business operations. Previously, Steve was the director of marketing and business development for Chalk Media, a leading North American mobile software and content solutions company that was acquired by RIM. At Chalk, Steve played a key role in successfully navigating the business past the dot com crash and getting it listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. During that time, Steve oversaw Chalk’s re-branding strategy, implemented a national public relations program, launched numerous content distribution partnerships with major airlines and publications, and helped set the foundation for the company’s strong market position in the new media content and applications sectors.
Steve is also the co-founder and chair of the C3 Korean-Canadian Society, Western Canada’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to bridging communities and fostering leadership through volunteer service. As a community representative, Steve is regularly consulted by private think tanks, academic roundtables and policy makers from all levels of government.
An avid writer, Steve has penned numerous articles for publications in the technology, business, marketing, tourism and hospitality sectors. Having earned his master’s from Korea University, Steve received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Western Ontario. |

Samantha Shah, ABC
Director of Marketing Communications
Samantha has over 10 years of experience delivering strategic marketing, corporate communications and brand building solutions. In addition to her role as the Director of Marketing Communications, she is a Principal with Vertex Strategy serving small to medium sized businesses as a strategic marketing consultant assisting clients with start-ups, strategic planning, brand development and marketing solutions.
Most recently she was the Global Marketing & Communications Manager for ECS where she led strategic development, brand management, corporate communications and promotional strategies. Prior to joining ECS, Samantha held several senior marketing roles within the professional services industry focused on building brand awareness and enhancing profiles, both nationally and internationally. Her accomplishments include a four-year educational campaign to create awareness about the importance of sustainability and her editorial work has been featured in many national publications. As a seasoned brand architect, she has driven nine brand development projects in the past five years.
As an Accredited Business Communicator (ABC), Samantha understands and practices the global standard of strategic communications excellence. She holds an Honours BA in Industrial & Organizational Psychology from the University of Western Ontario and was also appointed to the Board of Directors for the IABC BC Chapter. |

Christine Jakovcic, MBA
Director of Marketline Magazine
Christine is an experienced sales and marketing professional with a proven track record of strong brand and business building results in private and public companies in North America and Western Europe. In addition to her role on the BCAMA Board of Directors as Editor for Marketline Magazine, Christine is currently the Director of Brand Management and Revenue Strategy at LIJA Style, a boutique fashion house specializing in women’s golf, tennis and active apparel.
Prior to this, Christine was with Fortune 100 Company, Procter & Gamble for 11 ½ years in sales and marketing in Canada, U.S., U.K and the EU developing expertise in brand management, product innovation, advertising and communications, trade marketing and customer business development. She returned to Vancouver in 2008 after 5 years based in Toronto, Ontario and 3 years as an expatriate based in Geneva, Switzerland. Christine currently lives in Kitsilano and enjoys skiing, golf, and tennis amongst her many active pursuits.
Christine holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Victoria and University of British Columbia. |

Katherine Koyko
Director of Speaker Series
Katherine has over nine years of marketing experience working within wholesale, retail and recruitment industries. Katherine brings a successful track record in hiring winning teams and identifying great talent to Smart, Savvy + Associates where she currently works as a Marketing Talent Scout (aka recruiter). Having experienced the marketing world from both the client and agency side, she understands what it takes to put together a successful campaign and what makes a successful marketer.
Prior to joining Smart Savvy, Katherine worked for Groundswell as a Project Marketing Manager where she successfully developed and implemented marketing strategies for various real estate development projects throughout North America. Previous to that, Katherine spent several years in marketing leadership roles with Please Mum and Descente North America. |

Alicia Fruhm
Director of Collegiate
After completing work experiences with Cossette and NewAd, Alicia is currently working as a marketing consultant for Kaizen creative group. As a recent graduate from UBC and BCIT, she has experience working with and in collegiate organizations. During her time at BCIT, she served as the president of the BCIT Marketing Association and is familiar with the needs and requirements of students. As a winner of the BCAMA collegiate scholarship in 2008, she has shown a great deal of passion for marketing.
Though Alicia has been involved with the collegiate chapters of the BCAMA for 2 years, this is her first year on the executive board. She is thrilled to be taking on the role of director of collegiate relations. Her goals for the year involve trying to bridge the gap between with students and professionals of Vancouver and increasing the overall student membership in the BCAMA. |

Eric Buchegger
Director of Social Media
Eric Buchegger is an innovative marketing leader with expertise in brand management, strategy development and execution. Possessing knowledge in new media and traditional mass media, he brings over eight years of experience to the Board. Prior to taking on the social media portfolio, Eric was the Director of Membership. He was also on the organizing committee for the 2006 and 2007 VISION Conferences.
Eric's career started at Swiss Water Decaffeinated Coffee Company, which decaffeinates coffee using the SWISS WATER® Process – a consumer branded coffee decaffeination process used by leading domestic and international brands including Tim Hortons, Café Bom Dia (Sam’s Club distribution), and Nabob (Kraft). In his role, reporting directly to the President & CEO, Eric created and implemented consumer, trade and partner marketing strategies in collaboration with senior management, sales and ad agencies. He was also involved in annual brand planning and research initiatives. Following Swiss Water, Eric moved on to Ethical Funds, Canada’s premier brand of socially responsible investments. At Ethical Funds, which are distributed by financial institutions including the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and Vancity, he developed programs to increase brand awareness and educate consumers about socially responsible investing.
Currently, Eric is a Marketing Manager at Texcan, a provider of wire and cable solutions to leading companies including Suncor and Syncrude. At Texcan, he has introduced a strategic planning process, achieving alignment of vision, objectives, strategies and tactics. He also successfully implemented a CRM platform enabling execution of e-mail and direct mail lead generation initiatives.
Eric has a strong understanding of how brand strategies must evolve, leveraging new technologies and communication mediums to engage stakeholders and deliver bottom line results. His interests include strategic planning, interactive/digital marketing, online marketing, viral marketing, search engine optimization, social media and word-of-mouth.

Sarah Clayton
Director of Marketer of the Year
Sarah Clayton spent the first 10 years of her career in progressive roles learning how great brands are built. Holding marketing and sales positions in increasingly senior roles with Petro-Canada, she was recognized for generating marketing and sales successes in markets as large as $100 million. As businesses continue to shift away from traditional marketing, Sarah has expanded her knowledge of current trends in marketing, advertising and graphic design through the Langara Communication & Ideation Program. Using this knowledge, she has spent the last 4 years creating and implementing marketing strategies and targeted designer marketing solutions for her clients. Connected to the Vancouver marketing community, Sarah was appointed as Director for the BC chapter of the American Marketing Association's annual Marketer of the Year Award - a gala event honoring marketing excellence in British Columbia. |

Ryan McKee
Director of SIGS (Special Interest Groups)
With over five years of experience working with some of the top sports franchises in Vancouver, Ryan has become a trusted expert in the world of sports marketing. When he is not handling BCAMA matters, Ryan is the Manager of Marketing & New Media for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
After acquiring a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Alberta, Ryan honed his sports business expertise at the Art Institute, where he obtained a Certificate in Entertainment Business Management. Beginning his career with the Vancouver Canucks as a marketing assistant, he managed all aspects of marketing and promotion and spearheaded several new initiatives, including Pay-Per-View and The Inside Edge. During that time, he has also acted as a consultant for the Sea to Sky Hockey Challenge and participated on the Community and Sponsorship Committee for the BC Sports Hall of Fame. Currently at the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, he is responsible for the branding and marketing strategy for the club as they continue to gain a larger presence in the local sports landscape. An avid sports fan and participant, Ryan is a frequent guest instructor on sports marketing at UBC and Vancouver Film School. |

Kerry J. Plowman
Director of Volunteers
Kerry is a marketing professional with more than 10 years experience and a focus on lead generation and results-driven marketing strategies. He founded WestCoast Internet Marketing to help small and medium sized business expand their reach into target audiences using inbound and outbound marketing techniques. Kerry specializes in start-ups and product launches and has become the virtual marketing arm helping firms to define and execute their marketing plans.
Coming from the technology sector, Kerry has held senior management roles in Marketing and Product Management at leading multinational companies such as BMC Software, Network Associates Inc and McAfee. Customer advocacy, strategic planning and content creation were his primary focus resulting in several marketing campaigns that generated eight digit revenues. Kerry has guest lectured on industry trends and his career has led him to live in many places including Switzerland, Spain, Sweden,The Netherlands and the USA.
Kerry began his bachelor’s degree in Marketing at L’Université Laval and completed it at Uppsala Universitet in Uppsala, Sweden. He is fluent in English and French and also speaks Spanish, Dutch and Swedish. Kerry brings considerable experience with volunteer management from the American Red Cross, where he was responsible for 700 volunteers during the mega-shelter operations of the hurricane Ike evacuation to Dallas, TX in 2008. In his spare time, Kerry can be found hiking or skiing in the mountains, working on his private pilot license, studying Chinese martial arts or trekking around historical ruins. |

Pauline Craggs, CNA
Secretary / Treasurer
Pauline has over 17 years of experience as a Senior Accountant and System Specialist for a subsidiary of a large high-tech international company, Kongsberg Gruppen. Her responsibilities include all aspects of financial reporting for its Vancouver and Halifax office as well as providing financial and technical support for US offices. She is analytical in process improvement and has a strong focus in risk management to govern the company’s assets. She plays a key role in strategic planning and also serves as proactive member on several committees within her organization.
Pauline is a certified accountant of the Certified Management Accountants Society of British Columbia and is planning to receive her certification in Risk Management (CRM). In addition to over 30 years of accounting related experience, Pauline was in partnership with two small businesses, Abbott’s Deli and Nubody Works. |

Director of Web
Lionel Matecha is an account director at Graphically Speaking where he continues to provide web marketing strategy and planning for a wide variety of clients since 2003. His experience with web development and online marketing has continued to evolve since the mid-90s. Lionel’s business credits include ten years served as vice president of a marketing and design firm that specialized in the North American technology industry. He has also worked extensively in the technology and business magazine industry.
A graduate of Simon Fraser University's Executive MBA program, Lionel also holds a diploma in Graphic and Communication Arts and is designated as a Certified Internet Marketing Business Strategist by IIMA, the International Internet Marketing Association.Lionel has been a guest speaker on Internet topics for organizations such as the BC Technology Industries Association and has volunteered with other associations including New Media BC and the International Association of Business Communicators. |
